Creating a move plan

Creating a move plan

A successful move doesn’t just happen, it takes planning and preparation to ensure things go smoothly on your moving day. Here are a few tips to think about before your next move.

GET A HEAD START

Start planning for your move 30 – 60 days prior to your moving date, depending on the size of your move. Waiting until the last minute will only create unnecessary stress.

PICK A MOVING DATE

Think about when you can move versus when you have to move. Starting the moving process before you are ‘forced’ to be out of your existing home will eliminate the biggest stressor related to moving, time. Give yourself as much time to move as possible.

Another key factor is to pick a date that doesn’t interfere with work, school, kid activities, family activities, etc. and think of a ‘plan b’ moving date if your preferred date does not work out.

KEEP, DONATE, RECYCLE OR TRASH

Are you downsizing? Do you really need that box of trophies from high school? Deciding what you are going to move is an important as when you are going to move. Make a list of items you want to keep, donate, recycle or dispose of. Remember the tip about picking a date? Now pick another date, before the moving date, of when to get rid of the items you do not want to keep.
